Babies (6 weeks – 1 year) All babies are cared for in our baby unit. There is a very high ratio of staff to babies allowing us to provide the personal level of attention that all babies demand at this stage. Prior to starting at Handkerchief, your key person and manager will discuss with you your baby’s care plan. It is our intention to continue with the routine you have in place at home. You will also have the opportunity of discussing any concerns or worries.
Tweenies (1 – 2 years) At the appropriate time, your child will move from the baby unit into our tweenies room. The parent and Key person will discuss the move to the next room beforehand. As your child becomes more independent, we adapt the routine to cater to their needs. They will have the opportunity to experiment with paint, water, sand and play dough and other “fun” activities. Their routines will become a little more structured, but will include a period for sleep.
Toddlers (2 – 3 years) When children reach the toddler room, they are offered a more structured play and learning environment catering to their individual needs. This is a transitional time for your child and while in this room you will see many changes. Your child will start to form friendships. They will also experience a “spurt” in their vocabulary. Staff will encourage language development through appropriate interaction and also ensure good behaviour.
Pre-school (3 – 5 years) Pre-school starts at approximately three years. Our trained pre-school practitioners develop each child’s skills while following the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum outlined above.
