A view of our very securely fenced pond.
Parents will be pleased to know that
this area is absolutely impenetrable to children. Staffing ratios are generally doubled if the children want to go to the pond. As you can see from the photograph there is also a small fence around the perimeter of the pond. The pond is approximately 45' x 20' or 16m x 6.5m.
The pond is frequented by a pair of
mallard ducks from time to time and the more permanent residents include frogs and newts (as well as the koi), and unfortunately a Heron most days!
This part of the garden was partially sponsored by the Countryside Commission and the 'School Nature Areas In Leicestershire' (SNAIL), both of whom set regulations for safety, over and above conditions which must be met for our insurance company as well as those set by Leicestershire County Council Social Services.
Feeding time for the fish is very popular
with the children and sometimes it's hard to tell who is the most excited ............... the fish or the children! The larger white fish in the foreground is approx. 18" long and there are fish up to 24" long!
